So now that you know what you’re about to learn, let’s dive into the world of online education and training, the Udemy.
Before we continue, I want to let you know that I’m no longer an Udemy instructor. Although I still have a course on there, I don’t support it and not planning to go back to it anytime soon. This doesn’t mean that Udemy isn’t a good place to make money, but simply I’ve decided to start and grow my own brand.
If you’d like to use my company’s done for you system and training to earn up to $3,000 a day online, you should check out Aversity Gold Masterclass.
With that being said, let’s get started with the biggest Udemy challenge you’ll ever face:
Overcoming The Instructor Fear
I had a friend who wanted to sell her knowledge on Udemy. She was an amazing Amazon seller and making a good amount of money. Her main plan was to start her own Amazon training website and sell her training, but she wanted to start with an Udemy basic course to get some experience.
See, she knew how to make money on Amazon, but she’d never taught it to anyone, so she asked for my help. I shared everything I’ve learned based on dozens of courses that I’ve created for my own company, but she had a problem that she didn’t know about: she was simply scared to teach to an audience.
If it’s your first time teaching anything online, there’s a chance that you’ll doubt yourself. Will anyone listen to me? Why should they listen to me and not that other expert? Why should they pay for my course? Will my course worth it? Can my course compete with other top-selling courses? are going to be questions you’ll ask yourself before making a single video for your Udemy course.
What you need to understand is that no one is perfect on camera. I don’t even dare to go back to my older videos, they’re that cringy! The point is that you just have to learn by doing it.
In order for you to become successful on Udemy, you need to develop another skill that most of us don’t have by default and that is being a teacher. Understand that it takes time. All you need to do is to just record, upload to Udemy and make it better in future.
Why is Udemy A Great Way To Make Money Online?
Besides millions of visitors, Udemy has something that only a few training websites or companies in the world provide: an ecosystem. If you have no clue what I’m talking about, you’ll find out in a second.
Imagine you’re selling a Photoshop training course. The top seller course has thousands of students and reviews, so basically, there’s no chance for your new course to rank #1 and do well, right? No.

Udemy ecosystem creates an urge of information in users that makes them buy more courses. For example, when someone buys that top Photoshop course, Udemy automatically promotes your brand new course to them using different ways (email, ads, and more). This will help Udemy to get people to invest more in what they want to learn, which results in more sales for Udemy and its instructors.
So in reality, there’s an equal chance for everyone to sell, as long as you have a good course.
Even we use a similar system to this in Aversity to sell more products to our existing customers. An average member on Aversity invests over $400 in courses.
Your Course Structure
Now that we’re done with the basics, it’s time to get into the details of becoming successful and making money on Udemy. If you’re new to teaching online, this will help you save time and confusion.
It’s easy to feel everything is simple when you’re teaching something you know well to people. In order to create a course that will be helpful to everyone (especially on Udemy where skill levels are usually low and people are looking for basic training), you need to assume that you’re teaching your skills to a 5-year-old kid.
Get into the details as much as you can, but don’t confuse them or overwhelm them with too much information. Try keeping your videos short, less than 5 minutes.
Start with the main intro that explains a bit about the course and what they should expect, then have multiple modules or chapters (they call them “Sections” in Udemy), then add detailed but short videos to each module or chapter.
Tools To Create Your Udemy Courses
Depending on the subject of your course and your teaching style (yes, you’ll develop a teaching style), you will either record yourself, record your screen or even both at the same time. Here is a list of tools and devices I use to make my course videos.
Main face record camera: iPhone X
I think you these days you can use any phone to get a really nice footage of yourself with great quality. You can use anything for this one really.
Webcam for recording face and screen together: Logitec C920 HD Pro
This is one of the best webcams in the world and can record almost as good as my iPhone X. It can be used to record pretty much anything, especially high-quality face and screen mix videos.
Microphone for iPhone: Lavalier Microphone with TRRS
This is the microphone I use to record high-quality voice when recording myself on my phone. It sounds great and removes the room noise from the video. You can watch some of my videos on YouTube to learn how great it sounds!
Desk Microphone for screen videos: Blue Snowball USB Microphone
I use this great microphone to record myself when teaching on screen. This microphone has the best sound in the world and it’s a must-have for any instructor!
Screen recorder software: Quicktime for Mac and Screen-o-Matic for Windows
Both work great, you can use them to record screen, webcam or both at the same time to make amazing training videos.
How To Rank Your Course #1 On Udemy
Now that you got your tools, it’s time to talk about Udemy algorithm and ranking system. The good news is that it’s much simpler than Google, but you still need to work hard to rank on the top. Let me share my Udemy ranking strategies with you:
Learn From Top Ranking Courses on Udemy and Copy Them
Even with the best training in the world, you need to work the system a bit to be seen. Udemy, like any other search engine, relies on CTR, conversion rate and retention rate (which I’ll explain in a minute). So here’s how you learn what works: You do a search on Udemy for the keyword you want to rank, copy the tile for the first 3 courses to a text file and mix them and make something better.
You can also follow the same trick for their sales videos and sales content (Description) but remember to not copy 1-to-1. Not only that’s illegal, it can hurt your reputation as an instructor and that’s the worst thing that can happen to a teacher!
It may sound unnecessary on Udemy, but believe me when I say there’s always something to learn if you do a keyword research and this is a must if you’d like to make money on Udemy. Keyword research on Udemy is not that complicated and takes less than 30 seconds. Here’s how you do it: Write your main keyword in the search bar and screenshot every keyword that appears under it. Do the same thing for multiple keywords to end up with a list thing that people are searching.
Now write them all in a text file an try to use them in your course description. Keep in mind that you don’t have to use all of them, but using at least 50% of them would be helpful to Udemy ranking.
More Tips To Maximize Your Income On Udemy
To end this already long article on my Udemy experience, I’m going to give you 2 tips to maximize your income on Udemy:
#1: Update Your Course Every Week
This has proved to be a great selling point. Telling everyone in your sales video that you will update this course will help you to get more sales because everyone wants a course or program that constantly get’s new updates. You can also list the latest published update videos in your course’s sales page to get even more sales!
#2: Translate Your Course to Multiple Languages
This is an amazing way to triple your income instantly without having to create a new course. You can pay someone on Fiverr or Upwork to translate your course, add the translated voiceover to your videos and publish the course as a brand new course. It’s allowed and encouraged on Udemy!
